Warriors Fall to Bulldogs

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan made 63.2 percent of their free throws in its 76-68 loss to Barton.

Noelle van Zadelhoff posted career-highs in points with 20 and in rebounds with 19. She also blocked four shots. Chelsie Waters scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had two assists. Kristen Smith scored eight points and pulled in three rebounds.

Neither team was able to gain an advantage early as the score was tied 18-18 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs (13-13, 11-8 CC) outscored the Warriors (4-25, 1-18 CC) by eight in the second half to lead by eight at halftime.

Barton stretched their lead to 11 points with a 20-17 run in the third quarter. Southern Wesleyan was able to cut the deficit to two points as they scored outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 in the first four minutes of the first quarter. That would be the closest they would get as Barton ended the game on a 15-9 run.

"I know the results have not showed it, but our team is playing extremely hard right now," said Warriors Head Coach John Davis, "We are a few plays away from putting ourselves into a better situation on the scoreboard, but the result does not define this group of young ladies. As their coach I am proud of them."

The Warriors will next travel to North Greenville Feb. 20 for a 2 p.m. contest.
