Box Score Four Warriors go into double digits in the win against the Bob Jones University Bruins. Erika Wesolek led the Warriors with 16 points. She is followed by Taylor Vinson with 11, and Aneysa Williams and Tomi Sanchez had 10 points apiece.
The Warriors struck first on a layup and three point jump shot by Taylor Vinson. Tatiana Manuel made a layup to make the score 7-0, and she was followed by a 3-point jump shot by Aneysa Williams. A jump shot by Brianna Delaney put the Bruins on the board. Southern Wesleyan University was not finished as Kasey Howard made a layup followed by a jump shot by Breanna Richardson. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were leading 19-7. Southern Wesleyan was not finished in the second quarter, with two layups by Cayse Branyon to bring the lead to 23-9. Bob Jones were not going to make it easy for the Warriors, putting several points on the board to bring the score to 20-31. By the end of the first half, however, the Warriors were in the lead 31-23.
Southern Wesleyan started strong in the start of the second half with a jump shot by Taylor Vinson and 3-point shot by Aneysa Williams to bring the game to 36-26. The Bruins countered with several shots to bring the game to 32-44, but the Warriors lengthened their lead after layups by Tomi Sanchez and Kasey Howard. By the end of the third quarter the Warriors were leading 58-43. Erika Wesolek led the way in the fourth period with a 3-point jump shot and she was followed by another three-point jump shot by teammate Kristen Smith. From there it was a Southern Wesleyan game with layups by Erika Wesolek and Tomi Sanchez, and a three point jump shot by Breanna Richardson. Bob Jones University made shots on the basket, but they were unable to pull ahead allowing the Warriors to win their second game of the season 88-59.
"I thought we started the game well tonight, but ended the second quarter poorly after not being as aggressive," said Head Women's Basketball Coach John Davis. He continued, "We had a great second half of play and really saw some good play on both ends of the floor. We are continuing to get better."
Aneysa Williams, Taylor Vinson, Erika Wesolek and Tomi Sanchez combine for 47 points in the win. Tatiana Manuel contributes with 12 rebounds, she is followed by Taylor Vinson (7) Noelle Van Zadelhoff (7) and Kristen Smith (7). Tatiana Manuel had 6 blocks in the game, and Aneysa Williams and Cayse Branyon each had three steals in the game.
The win for the Warriors makes their record 2-4 and 0-2 in Conference Carolina action. Bob Jones University is now 4-6 and 1-0. Southern Wesleyan University will next play on December 3 at 2 p.m. where they will take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet in their first home Conference Carolina match of the season.
