Warriors Fall in Fifth Set

Sarah Hughey and Paige O'Connor combine for 27 kills in the 2-3 loss to the Columbus State University Cougars.

It was a tough night for the Warriors as they lost to 2-3 to the Cougars.  The Warriors started strong, winning the first set 25-13.  The energy continued to rise as the Warriors went on to win the second set 25-10.  They ended up having a total of 17 kills in the first two games of play.

The Cougars then rallied in the next two sets, beating the Warriors 25-20 each set and forcing a deciding fifth set between the two teams.  Though the Warriors rallied, they were unable to beat the Cougars in the deciding set.  The Cougars pounced and took the fifth set 15-8 with 9 kills.

Annika Jones compiled 35 assists, while Milica Stamenic and Anna Hughey combined for 25 digs in the loss.  The 3-2 loss against the Cougars makes the Warriors record 9-8 and 7-2 in Conference Carolinas play.  Columbus State University Cougars rise to 11-8 and 2-7 within their conference.

The Warriors will return to Tysinger Gymnasium on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. They will play again on Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m. for Southern Wesleyan University's Homecoming weekend.
