Warriors Drop Close Contest to Bobcats

CENTRAL, S.C.‑ Southern Wesleyan shot 38.7 percent from the field in its 78-77 loss to Lees-McRae.

Taylor Vinson scored a career-high 18 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists. Chelsie Waters scored 12 points and pulled in three rebounds. Brooke Strickland scored 11 points and also had two rebounds.

The Bobcats (4-10, 3-4 CC) led by seven at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors (4-9, 1-6 CC) cut the lead to three with a 21-17 run in the second quarter. They tied the game at the 7:35 mark on a three-pointer by Waters and led by 11 at the end of the third quarter.

Lees-McRae scored 12 consecutive points at the start of the fourth quarter to re-take the lead. Southern Wesleyan was able to regain the lead and led by five with 1:23 remaining after a 15-9 run. The Bobcats scored six consecutive points to take a one point lead with seven seconds left. The Warriors missed a shot with two seconds left to seal the victory for Lees-McRae.

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Belmont Abbey Jan. 13 for a 5:30 pm contest.
