Warriors Down Trojans 3-0 on Saturday Afternoon, Pick up 10th win of Season

Box Score

MT. OLIVE, N.C. - The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team is on a five match win streak and remains unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 win over Mt. Olive on Saturday afternoon. The win was the second in less than 48 hours who had a quick turnaround after a 3-1 win at Barton on Friday evening. With the win, the Warriors improve to 10-4 on the season and remain a perfect 5-0 in conference. Four of the five conference wins have been 3-0 sweeps, as only Barton has won a set against Southern Wesleyan. Mt. Olive falls to 2-11 on the season and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas.

"It was a great weekend and we're so pleased we picked up two more conference wins," a pleased Coach Reininga said. "Sarah (Hughey) continued to dominate with her double digit kills and four blocks (of the team's five) and Megan (Widener) really ran the court well as she added 35 assists, 11 digs and two aces. We will continue to clean up some areas where we need improvement and work to get better each week."

Hughey, a senior from Liberty, led all players with 19 kills in the Warrior win. She has had double digit kills in all five conference outings to lead the Warrior offense. Paige O'Connor added nine kills and libero Milica Stamenic tallied 13 digs. A stingy Warrior defense held the Trojans to hitting percentages of .184, .079, and .094 in the three sets, respectively.

The Warriors get a much deserved break, returning to action Friday, Oct. 2 at home against Limestone at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all home volleyball games. Fans can also watch the action via the Southern Wesleyan Athletics UStream channel.
