Warriors Move to 3-0 in Conference Play with win over Lees-McRae Saturday

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. - Julia Reininga's team won their third consecutive conference match, all in three sets, on Saturday afternoon with a win over Lees-McRae. The Warriors are now 8-4 overall, 3-0 in Conference Carolinas and has won four of the last five matchups. The 3-0 win Saturday was the seventh of the season for Southern Wesleyan. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

"We finished our first week of conference play strong," said Reininga. "I'm proud of the team and their commitment to get better each week. Today's win can be attributed to great effort all around."

The Warriors had a balanced attack on offense with seven pleyers recording a kill. Sarah Hughey led with 14 kills, followed by Kendall Vallancourt with nine and Paige O'Connor with eight. Megan Widener had 37 assists at setter, while Milica Stamenic added 12 digs at libero. The Warrior defense racked up seven blocks as a team.

Jordan Banta led the Bobcats with 12 kills, but thanks to a quality performance from the SWU defense, the Lees-McRae offense never hit about .308 in a set. In fact, the Warriors held the Bobcats to a .031 attack percentage in the third set.

The Warriors have almost a week off, returning to action Friday, Sept. 25 at Barton at 7 p.m. The next home match is slated for Oct. 2 against Limestone at 7 p.m.
