Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team kicked off conference play with a bang as the Warriors defeated Limestone 3-0 on the road on Tuesday night. With the win the Warriors improve to 6-4 on the season and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas. Limestone falls to 4-2 (0-1 ACC).
"It's always nice to get a road win in conference play" head coach Julia Reininga said. "The girls have been working hard to get better each week and we will use tonight's win to keep building and improving."
The first set between the teams was extremely close with many lead changes. Ultimately, the Warriors prevailed 25-23. The Warriors momentum continued in the second set as Southern Wesleyan prevailed 25-10 before taking the third set 25-18.
Reininga's team had a hitting percentage of 50% or in all three matches, including an outstanding 72% in the second set while holding the Saints to just 29% that set. Sarah Hughey and Paige O'Connor continue to pace the Warriors offensively as the two hitters tallied 16 and 11 kills, respectively. Katie Anderson also added eight kills while Megan Widener contributed 36 assists.
The Warriors return to action Friday for the first of two consecutive home matches. Southern Wesleyan plays King at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. before hosting Lees-McRae Saturday at 2 p.m.
"We are looking forward to having a weekend at home," Reininga said. "We are excited to play in front of our home crowed against some very good opponents."
