CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan couldn't carry their momentum from Saturday into Tuesday's night contest against North Greenville, falling to the Crusaders 87-71 in Tysinger Gymnasium.
Kenny Holmes scored a team-high 18 points on 6 of 19 shooting. Holmes connected on 4 of 12 from downtown and also led the way with six assists and two steals. Cameron Solomon added 15 points on 4 of 12 shooting. Darius Sharped added 12 points and Buster Walker chipped in with 11.
The Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead as Walker scored on a layup off the opening tip and Holmes added a triple. Later, Holmes tied the game at 13-13 with his third three of the first seven minutes. Korval McElroy responded for the Crusaders with a three of his own to put NGU back on top at 16-13, a lead they never gave up.
McElroy scored 15 and added five assists and four rebounds as Spencer Reaves led all players with 27 points including connecting on 4 of 8 from downtown. He finished 10 of 17 from the floor. Lashawn Alexander added 18 points and 11 rebounds.
NGU connected on 54 percent of their field goal attempts and hit 8 of 19 from long range. The Warriors shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.
The Warriors closed to within two at 38-36 late in the first half as Walker hit on a pair of free throws but the Crusaders scored four straight before the end of the half to gain some breathing room. Reaves scored 10 of the team's first 14 points in the second half as NGU quickly opened a 16-point lead in the first 5:39 of the half.
A three-point play from Cameron Solomon capped a 7-0 run for the Warriors as SWU closed to within ten at 68-58, but were unable to get the deficit into single digits.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend as they travel to Barton on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Bulldogs defeated SWU 109-96 back in January.
