CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell behind early to No. 12/14 Mount Olive and never recovered, falling 82-69 in Conference Carolinas action in Tysinger Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Warriors took a brief early lead at 4-3 but the Trojans used a 10-0 run in the next two minutes to take control. SWU was able to pull back within four at 28-24 on a free throw from Jamaral Kearse but UMO pushed the lead back out to double digits at 36-26 with 7:06 to play.
The Trojans took a 44-28 lead into halftime and midway through the second half led by 21. UMO shot over 50 percent in both halves and finished the game at 54.2 percent (26 of 48). The Trojans knocked down 57.1 percent in the first half.
The Warriors shot 54.2 percent in the second half but only 37 percent in the first half, finishing the game at 45 percent (23 of 51). SWU made 5 of 20 from beyond the arc and 18 of 23 at the foul line. The Trojans connected on 6 of 14 from long range and 24 of 28 at the charity stripe.
Cameron Solomon led all players with 33 points as the senior guard knocked down 9 of 18 from the field. Solomon made four of the team's five three-pointers and made 11 of 13 from the foul line. Kenny Holmes and Dwayne Bryant each added 14 points. Bryant added nine rebounds and Holmes had seven assists. The Trojans had four players in double figures led by Dontrell Brite's 19 points.
The Warriors pulled down 27 rebounds, two more than UMO. SWU had 12 offensive rebounds but scored just six second chance points. The Trojans had only eight offensive rebounds but still managed eight second chance points.
SWU is back in action this Saturday, travelling to King University for a 4 p.m. tip. The Tornado won the season's first meeting 84-72 in Tysinger back on Jan. 13.
