Warriors Fall 98-56 at Mount Olive Tuesday Night

Box Score

MT. OLIVE, N.C. - The Southern Wesleyan men's basketball team fell 98-56 to a talented Mount Olive team on the road on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

DJ Dobson had 15 points on the night to lead the Warriors and tied for most points of any player in the game. The freshman was also a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe in 23 minutes of action. Jamaral Kearse followed with 11 points while Tyus Gaines and Da'Quan Weldon both contributed six.

"Inexperience really showed tonight," said head coach Charles Wimphrie. "We played hard and the guys never gave up. As coach, my job is to keep their spirits up. Mount Olive is an experienced team with five seniors. We are young, but we are learning valuable lessons each game. Hopefully things will come together as the season progresses."

The Trojans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead off back-to-back three's and never looked back. Mount Olive had five players finish in double figures. The Trojans had success offensively while their stingy defense limited Southern Wesleyans quality looks. SWU shot only 36.4% from the field while the Trojans were able to shoot 62%, including 50% from beyond the three point line.

The Warriors had 23 turnovers, as opposed to UMO's 14, and those turnovers led to 29 Trojan points. The Trojans also won the battle in the paint by 12 points and had 11 more rebounds and six more steals.

Southern Wesleyan returns to the court Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Allen University. The game, held in SWU's Tysinger Gymansium, will follow the women's 5:30 p.m. matchup against Bob Jones.
