Warriors Sweep Emmanuel 3-0 Friday Night

Box Score

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team moved to 16-5 on the season and a stout 11-1 in conference play with a 3-0 win over Emmanuel College on Friday night. The Warriors won 25-14-, 25-21, and 25-15 to claim the match in straight sets. Emmanuel falls to 11-12 on the season and 3-9 in Conference Carolinas with the loss.

Sarah Hughey and Paige O'Connor paced the offensive attack, as they have for most of the season. The hitters finished with 14 and 10 kills, respectively, on the night. Megan Widener added 31 assists in the contest. Widener currently leads the NCCAA with highest assist average as the senior was averaging 10.58 assists per set entering the match.

Milica Stamenic tallied an impressive 24 digs to lead the Warrior defense. The stingy Warrior defense held the Lions' offense to hitting percentages of .053, .150 and 0.00 in the three sets while the Southern Wesleyan offense never hit below .250 in a set. The play at the net was also a big factor as the Warriors had three solo blocks and eight block assists in the win.

"It was a great road win for us tonight," said head coach Julia Reininga. "Sarah and Paige continued to pace our offense and I was really pleased with our blocking tonight."

The Warriors face conference rival Erskine on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Due West. The match is set for 2 p.m. The Flying Fleet are the only team to hand the Warriors a conference loss this season as Erskine won the Oct. 10th matchup in Central by a 3-0 score. However, the Warriors have won three straight since the matchup.
