Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team swept North Greenville 3-0 on Thursday night on the road. The Warriors are now 15-5 overall and improve to 10-1 in conference play. North Greenville falls to 16-8 overall and 7-4 in Conference Carolinas.
The Warriors won the match 25-19, 25-23, 25-15 and have now won eight of 11 conference matches in straight sets.
"The team came into tonight's match focused and ready to play," said Julia Reininga, the Warriors head coach. "We had different players stepping up every set."
For the second game in a row sophomore Paige O'Connor led the Warriors' offensive attack. The outside hitter recored 18 saves in the win, including 10 in the first set. O'Connor hit an impressive .667 on the night while also adding four digs and three blocks.
Megan Widener had an impressive 44 assists, six digs and three kills. Sarah Hughey added 11 kills in two sets while Katie Anderson talllied seven. Kendall Vallancourt and Shelby Sheets both notched five kills. Milica Stamenic contributed 18 digs in the contest to lead all players.
The Southern Wesleyan offense hit .484, .441 and .435 in the three sets, respectively. One huge momentum booster was the serving performance from Kendall Vallancourt. The sophomore recorded six service aces including four in a row in the third set that stretched the Warrior lead from 12-11 to 20-11 and all but put the match away. The Warriors recorded five points in a row to force a Crusader timeout and out of the timeout Vallancourt served four straight aces to help the Warriors to another five set rally as part of a 10-0 run.
After four matches in the last six days, the Warriors have eight days off before returning to action Friday, Oct. 23 at Emmanuel. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and will be Emmanuel's breast cancer awareness game.
