Warriors Suffer First Conference Loss of Season, Fall to Erskine 3-0 Saturday

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team suffered their first loss in conference play on Saturday, falling 3-0 to the Erskine Flying Fleet. Both teams were a perfect 8-0 in conference play heading into the matchup. Erskine continues on its eight match win streak to move to 12-5 on the season and 9-0 in Conference Carolinas. The Warriors are now 13-5 on the season and 8-1 in conference play. 

"It was a tough loss today against a very good Erskine team," said head coach Julia Reininga. "I'm very proud of how the team kept their composure in some tough situations throughout the match. I was impressed with the leadership from our seniors. We will work hard to regroup and come back strong next week."

The Flying Fleet won 25-16, 25-15 and 25-23. Sami Harting and Marissa Greenough led the offensive attack for Erskine hitting .733 and .520, respectively. Kristen Dodge added 34 assists while Kendall Kirk led all players with 11 digs.

For the Warriors, Sarah Hughey led the offense with 12 kills. Paige O'Connor and Katie Anderson added eight and six, respectively. Anderson led with eight digs and libero Milica Stamenic added six. Senior setter Megan Widener contributed 30 assists on 81 attempts. 

The Warriors return to action Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Converse College at 7 p.m.
