DUE WEST, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan was unable to keep pace with Erskine on Wednesday night, falling 74-53 to the Flying Fleet.
The Warriors have were led by Kenny Holmes who scored a game-high 17 points on 6 of 14 shooting. SWU connected on 37.7 percent from the floor in the game while knocking down just 5 of 17 from long range. Erskine hit 41.3 percent overall and made 8 of 20 from deep.
The Flying Fleet led throughout the contest and used a 13-2 run midway through the first half to turn an 8-7 game into a 21-9 affair with 10:00 to play in the half. The lead reached 16 before the end of the half as Erskine kept their distance in the second half.
The Warriors made a small run to cut the lead down to 10 at 44-34 after a 10-2 run. The Flying Fleet answered with their own 10-2 run to push the lead back out to 18 at 54-36 with 10:38 to play.
In addition to Holmes, Darius Sharpe reached double digits with 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting. No other player scored more than six points for the Warriors.
Erskine was led by four players in double digits as Arvel Atwater and DeShaun Hall both scored 15 points. The Flying Fleet got to the free throw line 35 times in the contest, making 28. The Warriors also made 80 percent from the line but made only 10 trips.
Holmes added four rebounds and four a team-best four assists for the Warriors. SWU was out rebounded 36-33. Buster Walker and Jamaral Kearse each pulled down six rebounds and each had four on the offensive end.
The Warriors return home to host Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 4 p.m.
