Volleyball claims Region Title, Earns bid to NCCAA Nationals

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball will be making a return trip to Florida after defeating North Greenville 3-0 for the NCCAA South Region Championship on Saturday morning and earning a bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.

The Warriors swept the Crusaders by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-13 to give SWU their third three-set win over NGU this season.  SWU has won five straight and three in a row in three sets. This was the 18th sweep for the Warriors on the season.

Jacinta Hoffpauir led the Warriors (24-8) with 11 kills and a .409 attack percentage as the Warriors hit .376 for the match.  The Crusaders managed just a .153 attack overall.

SWU wasted little time jumping all over NGU with a .480 attack in the first set and a .448 mark in the second set.  The Warriors gained big leads in each set, leading 14-8 in the first, 13-8 in the second and 11-5 in the third. SWU cruised to victory in each of the three sets from those points.

Courtney O'Brien and Milica Stamenic each recorded 12 digs for the Warriors as Megan Widener led all players with 28 assists.  Widener added four service aces and five digs.  Sarah Hughey and Cherilyn Ramsey each added eight kills as both players hit over .400 in the match with no errors.  Alysia Cruell added seven kills and eight digs.

The Warriors advance to the NCCAA National Tournament for the first time since 2012 and the fifth time since 2008.  As the schedule and bracket for the 10-team, two-pool field is released by the NCCAA we will bring you all the information at swuathletics.com.
