LAKE WALES, Fla. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball swept Emmanuel for the third time this season as the Warriors advance to the NCCAA South Region finals on Saturday. That match is scheduled for 9 a.m.
The Warriors (23-8) won in straight sets for the 17th time this season after defeating the Lions 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 on Friday.
SWU's defense limited the Lions (12-16) to a .000 attack for the match with 15 kills and 15 errors. The Warriors dug 55 balls on the day with 14 of those credited to Milica Stamenic. SWU also managed to record 11 total blocks with Sarah Hughey leading the way with four.
Hughey had only six kills on the afternoon and hit .308 as the team saw six players record five or more kills in the match. Cherilyn Ramsey led all players with 10 kills and hit .300, one of four to hit at least .300 with five or more kills.
The Warriors recorded 16 kills in the third set alone, one more than Emmanuel was credited with in the entire match. The Lions also had their best offensive performance in the third with seven kills.
Alysia Cruell added eight kills for the Warriors along with nine digs. Jacinta Hoffpauir chipped in with six kills as Courtney Williams and Megan Widener each added five kills. Widener also recorded 31 assists and had two service aces and eight digs.
The Warriors jumped out to big leads in each of the three sets and never looked back as each set saw the Warriors push their lead into double digits.
On Thursday the region handed out their season awards as Sarah Hughey was named Region MVP and was joined on the 1st Team by Megan Widener and Cherilyn Ramsey. Alysia Cruell was named to the 2nd Team.
The Warriors will meet North Greenville in Saturday's championship match scheduled for 9 a.m. SWU defeated the Crusaders 3-0 on Sept. 23 and 3-0 on Oct. 24.
