Warriors sweep Emmanuel for second time

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball swept Emmanuel for the second time this season, defeating the Lions 25-19, 25-20, 25-11 in Conference Carolinas action.

The Warriors (0-0, 0-0) needed a 4-0 run to break open a 16-16 first set as Jacinta Hoffpauir closed out the set with one of her seven kills.  SWU trailed midway through the second, 15-12, but finally got on top of Emmanuel at 20-19 and ended the set on a 6-1 run. In the third, the Warriors used a 7-0 run early to open a 10-3 lead before running away with the set, adding a 5-0 run.

SWU tallied four service aces in the match with Courtney O'Brien collecting three of them, two in that late 5-0 run in the third set.  O'Brien also added seven digs on the night.

The Warriors hit .333 in the match including a .440 clip in the second set.  Emmanuel labored to just a .057 attack on the night.  Alysia Cruell led all players with 11 kills and hit .409 while also tying for the team lead with nine digs.  Megan Widener also recorded nine digs and led all players with 30 asists.

Sarah Hughey added nine kills on just 13 attacks, hitting .692 for the match.  Cherilyn Ramsey and Hoffpauir each recorded seven kills.

SWU returns to the court against the top team and lone undefeated team in Conference Carolinas, Erskine, on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Due West.
