Warriors Fight Past Belhaven

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's basketball picked up a 73-66 win over Belhaven in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Friday night.  The Warriors have won two of their last three in regular season competition.


The Warriors (4-7, 2-3 SSAC) seized control late in the first half and led for all but 40 seconds in the second half.  Early the second half SWU took a 13 point lead but the Blazers fought back with a 23-9 run over a stretch of 7:38.  Neither team shot the ball well from the floor as the Warriors finished at 37 percent and Belhaven (7-7, 2-3 SSAC) at 39 percent.


Michelle Anaya led two players with double-doubles, posting a team-high 15 points and 13 rebounds.  Christiana Perkins added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Three more Warriors were in double figures scoring as Cayse Branyon added 14 points and Chelsie Waters and Brroke Strickland posted 10 points each.


The Warriors led 33-25 at the break despite shooting just 33 percent in the first half but the Blazers shot just 30 percent in the first half.  Belhaven committed 13 first-half turnovers and 25 in the game.  The Warriors had 24 turnovers.


Southern Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday as they host Loyola (LA) at 3 p.m. in Tysinger Gymnasium.
