SWU Volleyball Advances to SSAC Semis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball is into the semifinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament after defeating Emmanuel in the quarterfinals on Friday.


The Warriors will meet top seed Spring Hill in the semifinals on Saturday at 12 p.m. eastern.  The Badgers were a perfect 14-0 in the SSAC during the regular season and unbeaten in pool play of the tournament.  SWU battled SHC to five thrilling sets earlier in the year.


Jacinta Hoffpauir led Warriors to a 3-0 win – the third win over the Lions this year – with 15 kills on Friday night.  Hayley Hoover added 11 and Alysia Cruell chipped in with 10.  The Warriors hit .370 for the match including a .500 clip in the first set and 21 kills and a .444 attack percentage in the third.


Kelsey Deerinwater led the team with 16 digs and Megan Widener added 40 assists.  Cruell added three service aces and Hoover had two as well.


The Warriors lost to Coastal Georgia in their final pool play match 3-1 earlier in the day.  SWU still advanced to the knockout stage with a 1-1 record.  Spring Hill, Mobile and Coastal Georgia all went undefeated in pool play with Spring Hill and Mobile receiving byes into the semifinals as the top seeds with perfect records.
