SWU Comes Up Short Against Shorter

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball's run to the NCCAA South Region title came up short on Wednesday night, falling to top-seed Shorter 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-18).


The Warriors (27-13) could not get their attack on track against the Hawks (23-9).  SWU hit just .031 for the match with a negative attack in both the second and third sets.  Shorter hit .302 for the match.


Cherilyn Ramsey led the team with eight kills while Hayley Hoover and Jacinta Hoffpauir chipped in with seven and six.  Kelsey Deerinwater led all players with 14 digs while Hoover added 10.

  
The Warriors led the first set 23-20 but a service error from the Warriors touched off five straight points for the Hawks to take the match.  Jasmine Crook led all players with 14 kills and Erica Baker added 11 for Shorter.


Shorter advances to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. beginning on Dec. 5.  The Warriors will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the tournament.  The tournament field is expected to be announced on Sunday.
