Hoover Leads Warriors in Historic Win

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan ran their win streak to four with a historic 3-0 win over Brewton-Parker on Saturday afternoon.

Hayley Hoover served 25 straight times in the third set as the Warriors won 25-0 over the Lady Barons.  The senior recorded six of her 10 service aces in the third set and also had five of her 10 digs in the set.  The Warriors never gave up the serve in the set.

At 23-0 the Warriors looked like they were about to give up a point as BPC's kill attempt was deflected and disrupted the SWU offense.  Kelsey Deerinwater made a diving attempt near the 10-foot line and somehow was able to get the ball over the net to keep the rally alive.  The Warriors won the point on an attack error by the Lady Barons and won the set on the next point as Jacinta Hoffpauir delivered the final kill of the afternoon.

SWU (19-7, 7-0 SSAC) hit .448 for the match including over .400 in each set on the day.  Brewton-Parker hit negative .226 for the afternoon.  Courtney Williams led all players with 10 kills and hit .429.  Williams also had five total blocks as the Warriors registered eight on the afternoon.

Hoover had three kills on just six attempts.   She led the team in digs and aces.  The team had 17 aces in the match. Hoffpauir had seven kills on 14 attempts and also recorded three blocks.  Megan Widener had 23 assists and five blocks on the afternoon.

The Warriors will step out of SSAC action on Wednesday to take on Columbia College (SC) in a return match after the Warriors defeated the Fighting Koalas 3-0 earlier in the season.  SWU returns home next weekend to host two of the top teams in the SSAC in Mobile and Spring Hill.  Spring Hill is the only unbeaten team besides SWU in the SSAC. That match is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
