Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball continued their dominance of Southern States Athletic competition, defeating Coastal Georgia 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-21) on Friday night.
The Warriors (18-7, 6-0 SSAC) have won five of their six conference matches by a score of 3-0 and have won three in a row overall since a 3-2 loss to Shorter. SWU is now 13-2 overall in three-set matches this year.
SWU jumped out to a big lead en route to an easy first set win but had to rally in the second to pull out the win. The Warriors scored six of the final seven points to overcome a 22-19 deficit for the 25-23 win, capped by one of Courtney Williams' seven kills. The Warriors held a 16-9 lead in the third before having to hold off a late charge by the Mariners to close out the set 25-21, again capped by a kill from Williams.
No player reached double figures in kills for the Warriors on the night. Holly Hammer led all players with 13 kills for Coastal Georgia. Cherilyn Ramsey led SWU with nine kills on 20 attacks. Her .300 attack percentage led the Warriors. SWU hit only .211 for the match after a .414 clip in the first set.
Kelsey Deerinwater tallied 17 digs to lead all players; Maggie Bee had 10 for the Mariners. Both teams recorded 37 digs. Megan Widener led all players with 32 assists and three service aces. She also had seven digs.
The Warriors and Mariners will meet up again this season in Brunswick, Ga. on Oct. 25. SWU will host Brewton-Parker on Saturday at 1 p.m.
