How It Happened

Set One

Both teams exchanged points from errors to start the contest. The first earned point would come from a kill by Olivia Johnson. The Warriors fell behind quickly at 11-5 before a kill from Sarah Stone could break the run. A kill from Johnson and a service ace from Katlyn Von Ins pulled the Warriors within six at 15-9. The Crusaders were able to warm-up their offense throughout the set to finish strong with a 25-17 victory.

Set Two

The Warriors struck first in set two with a kill from Amber Bass. With another kill from Bass, the Warriors extended their lead to 3-1. The Crusaders fought back to take an 8-5 lead before kills from Stone would tie it at 8-8. Belmont Abbey continued to pressure the Warriors by holding them offensively and working them defensively. Johnson's kills attempted to regain the Warriors lead, but the Crusaders kept finding ways to increase their lead. Despite a late kill from Johnson, the Crusaders would win set two 25-12.

Set Three

Belmont Abbey took an early 8-2 lead over Southern Wesleyan, after the Warriors only earned point came from Johnson. Back-to-back aces from Darby Sheets pulled the Warriors within two and forced a Belmont Abbey time-out. Out of the time-out, the Crusaders jumped into a 3-0 run to provide more cushion on their lead. The Warriors would earn a series of points off of Crusader errors, while still producing kills to extend their lead. A kill from Ashlyn Holford late in the third set threatened, but Belmont Abbey would clinch the set and the match with a 25-17 win.
