DUE WEST, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan took the first two sets but couldn't hang the first loss on the top team in Conference Carolinas, falling to Erskine in five close sets on Saturday afternoon.
The Flying Fleet ( 18-6, 14-0 CC) defeated the Warriors by scores of 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-12. SWU (19-8, 10-3 CC) hit .189 for the match while Erskine was only a touch better at .195. The Warriors hit .350 in the second set and .257 in the third but couldn't break .100 in the final two sets as the team with the better percentage won each set.
Alysia Cruell led the team for the second straight day with 16 kills and hit .324. She added a team-high 17 digs to notch her third double-double of the season. Sarah Hughey added a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs but hit just .145 for the match. Hughey added four block assists and two service aces.
Cherilyn Ramsey just missed out on a double-double with 14 digs and nine kills. She also recorded a team-best six block assists. Jacinta Hoffpauir added eight kills as Courtney O'Brien recorded 12 digs and nine assists. Milica Stamenic had 11 digs while Megan Widener had 10 digs and a team-high 39 assists.
The Warriors will head to Converse on Wednesday before closing out the season at home next Friday and Saturday.
