Women's Soccer Announces 2018 Signing Class

Central, S.C. - SWU Head Women's Soccer Coach, Corey Morrell and the women's soccer program have signed five players for the 2018 class. The program has qualified for the last two Conference Carolinas Tournaments and played for the NCCAA South Region Final this past season. The newest members will look to continue building the program, on and off the field. Coach Morrell and the Women's Soccer program welcome Ashton Irby, Joy Namyst, Madison Woolbert, Makala Latsch and Payton Woolbert.

"We are really excited about this class! It's not the biggest class we have signed, but we believe the quality is tremendous. On the field, this group has an opportunity to have a big impact for our team, and off the field, their collective character and work ethic in the classroom is a perfect match for our program's core values and team culture. This is an excellent group and I am excited to see them develop as people and players over the next four years!"

Ashton Irby – Ashton is central midfielder and central defender from Powdersville, SC (Powdersville H.S. / CESA Tri-County) where she has served as team captain, been selected to All-Region teams, voted Offensive MVP and helped her team become State Champions in 2017. "We are really excited to have Ashton becoming a Warrior!" Coach Morrell commented. "She is obviously one heck of a forward and has a real propensity for finding the back of the net. But she is very well rounded, as evidenced by her Best Defensive Player award as a freshman. She has power, reads the game well, and has very smart and calculated movements in and around the box. Another high character person that is a perfect fit for us."

She has good pace which can cause problems for defenders and is really good at creating assists. She is a highly positive and motivated individual that will be a great fit for our program."

Madison's quote about SWU: "SWU was the perfect marriage between a loving community, God, soccer, and an amazing criminal justice program.  I feel honored to be a part of the SWU family and I cannot wait to kick it and take names out there on the soccer field!"

She is a very smart player that loves to create and combine with her teammates. She has tremendous endurance for working in wide areas and she will use this to her advantage. Payton has great vision for creating the final pass and assist. Above all, she has great character and integrity and will be a perfect match for us."
