Coach Morrell says…

"What a great game!  Hats off to Lees-McRae College, they played great and pressured us very well.  But we stuck with our game plan, created a bunch of chances on goal, they just wouldn't go in until Beth Spence finished it off in overtime!  Great win for us!"

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan and Lees-McRae kept to a stalemate during the first half of play.  The Warriors drove the ball down the field several times, but each drive was thwarted by the Bobcat defense.  Amber German led the Warriors with taking six shots, two on goal during the first half of play.

The Warriors and the Bobcats fought back and forth, with both teams taking several shots on goal.  Ashley Romanowski drove the ball down the field several times seeking to give the Warriors a lead, but each time it was thwarted.  The Bobcats countered with Kelsey Twigg driving the ball down the field, but a save by Courtney McNeill allowed the Warriors to keep Lees-McRae at bay.

However, neither team could capitalize to force an overtime period to occur.  After only seconds into the first period of overtime, Ashley Romanowski passed the ball to senior Beth Spence.  Spence turned the ball around and drove it into the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory over the Bobcats.
