Coach Davis says…

"Our team's fight tonight was admirable.  It is not good to be where we are at now at 0-2 in conference play, but our team was able to take some good from tonight.  We were more aggressive offensively and made the extra pass.  We were able to get to the free throw line consistently, but shooting 44% will not help your cause from the charity stripe.  We adjusted well throughout the game to our scheme and defensively we have to defend the 3-point line much better.  Our team will have some time off now and we will get some good practice time prior to our next conference game."

How It Happened

North Greenville took the first points, but Denisha Hall made a layup to quickly tie the game 2-2.  Karen Donehew countered with back-to-back layups to give the Crusaders 6-4 point advantage.  Southern Wesleyan continued to fight as Hall made a 3-pointer to put the Warriors down by one.  The Warriors continued to fight, but the Crusaders continued to push ahead.  Southern Wesleyan would not go down easily as Lisana Burnett and Ramsay Green made layups to make the score 23-15.

Denisha Hall kicked off the second quarter for the Warriors, sinking a jump shot to put the Warriors within nine of the Crusaders.  North Greenville countered with a 3-point jump shot by Journey Muhammed, but a layup by Emily Waters kept Southern Wesleyan within ten points.  The Crusaders pushed ahead, going on a seven-point scoring streak before a free throw by Waters broke it.  A last second layup by Lisana Burnett put the Warriors down 51-35 at the half.

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the third quarter as Lisana Burnett drove to the net and made a layup off an assist by Emily Waters.  However, a 3-pointer by Bree Stoddard allowed North Greenville to push their lead to 54-37.  The Warriors would not be discouraged as Denisha Hall and Brooke Henricks made layups.  North Greenville continued to push ahead with a 3-pointer by Karen Donehew.

Southern Wesleyan continued to pick up the pass as Denisha Hall made a layup to make the score 75-57.  The Warriors continued to push with a layup by Emily Waters and jump shot by Hall.  Hall stole the ball away from the Crusaders and made a layup and then a defensive rebound by Waters resulted in a 3-pointer by Aneysa Williams to put the Warriors within six points of North Greenville with just under six minutes remaining.  Caroline Reese sunk a three point basket to put the Warriors within four and make the score 80-76.  Despite the last minute layup by Waters, Southern Wesleyan dropped the game to North Greenville 90-82.
