CENTRAL, S.C.‑ Three players scored in double-digits for Southern Wesleyan in its 81-78 loss to Belmont Abbey.
Noelle van Zadelhoff scored a season-high 19 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had two steals. Tomi Sanchez scored 14 points, pulled in three rebounds, and dished out two assists. Aneysa Williams scored 13 points, dished out three assists, and had three steals.
The Warriors (4-7, 1-4 CC) led by six points at the end of the first quarter. The Crusaders (5-6, 4-1 CC) came back and took a one-point lead at half-time. They stretched their lead to three going into the third quarter.
Southern Wesleyan tied the game on the first possession of the fourth quarter. The teams traded buckets and then Belmont Abbey went on run to give themselves a six-point lead with four minutes remaining. The Warriors took the lead at 78-77 with a little over a minute left in the game. The Crusaders re-took the lead with 23 seconds remaining. Southern Wesleyan had one more shot to win the game, but missed it with three seconds left and Belmont Abbey secured the rebound. They made two free throws with one second left to seal the game.
