CENTRAL, S.C. – Shelby Gilbert scored 18 points and shot 6-for-9 from the three-point line to lead Southern Wesleyan to an 80-58 victory over Bob Jones.
Aneysa Williams scored 12 points, grabbed three rebounds, and had three steals. Chelsie Waters led the team with seven assists and also scored seven points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Cayse Branyon scored eight points, pulled in four rebounds, and blocked one shot.
"It was a good team effort and that is what I am most pleased with," said Warriors head coach John Davis. "We were balanced scoring, we were better from a team defense standpoint, we rebounded as a team, and we shared the ball offensively."
The Warriors (3-3) held the Bruins (6-7) to 31.6 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from the three-point line. Southern Wesleyan shot 41.2 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from behind the arc. They also shot 73.3 percent from the foul line.
"We have to continue to put a strong belief in the team concept with this group," said Davis. "We have multiple players that can do well and it is just a matter of us trusting each other and putting the team first on every possession. I felt we did a great job of that tonight."
The Warriors return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Barton College.
