Warriors Split Doubleheader With Saints

Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan splits the doubleheader with the Limestone Saints on Wednesday evening. The Saints won game one 5-0 and the Warriors won game two 2-1.


The Warriors posted five hits in the game one loss to the Saints. Delaney Byers, Lydia Clanton, Megan New, Becca White and Ashton Martin each collected one hit apiece. Taylor Le drew the lone walk of the game and Byers had the only stolen base. Southern Wesleyan had one strikeout in the loss, coming from starting pitcher, Delanie Laudenbacher. Laudenbacher pitched all seven innings for the Warriors.

In game two, the Warriors had three hits in the victory. Taylor Le, Delaney Byers and Megan New led the team with one hit each. Byers and Le both had doubles and Le picked up the lone RBI. Four Warriors drew walks. Byers and Addie Nugent each had a stolen base. Southern Wesleyan posted five strikeouts in the win, all coming from starting pitcher, Ashton Martin. Martin pitched the complete game for the Warriors.

How It Happened

Game One

The Saints struck early in game one, scoring in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0.

Limestone went on to score two runs in the second inning, one in the third and one more in the fourth to win game one 5-0.

Game Two

In the top of the fourth inning, the Saints struck first. However, the Warriors countered in the bottom of the inning. Ashton Martin drew a walk and took first base. Amber Belk then came in to pinch run for her. Becca White followed with a groundout to third, but Belk advanced to second. Taylor Le delivered a double deep into left field and scored Belk to tie the game at 1-1.

Delaney Byers led off the bottom of the sixth inning by taking first base after being hit by a pitch. Lydia Clanton then drew a walk. Megan New followed with a hard-driven infield single to take first base and advanced both runners. Kassidy Hamrick then came into run for New. Byers took advantage of a passed ball and scored to put the Warriors ahead 2-1. Southern Wesleyan went on to win game two.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host the Converse Valkyries on April 5 at 4 and 6 p.m. They will then host Trinity Baptist on April 6, which will also be Senior Night at 1 and 3 p.m.
