Anderson, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell in the first game of the season to the Anderson Trojans in a 92-75 final score.
Southern Wesleyan went 27 out of 57 in field goal shots with Jeremy Wert leading the team with seven field goals. How It Happened
The Trojans struck first, by a layup by Jeremy Wert allowed the Warriors to tie the game up 2-2. Wert went up again to allow the Warriors to pull ahead with a 4-2 lead over the Trojans. Shots by Javon Hunter and Justice McCullough about the Warriors to take an 8-4 point lead over the Trojans of Anderson. Southern Wesleyan took a six point lead over Anderson on a layup by Justice McCullough. The Trojans pushed forward to come to 11-12 behind Warriors, but a dunk by Zalan Richards allowed Southern Wesleyan to take their lead to 14-11. Anderson tied the game at 16 on a three-point shot by Gage Ellis. The Trojans pushed ahead, taking a 22-18 point lead. Jeremy Wert sunk a three pointer to allow the Warriors to regain a 23-22 point lead over the Trojans. Anderson took a 36-24 lead on a three-point shot by Randall Shaw. With the Trojans leading, Jalen Lowery made a three point jump shot to cut Anderson's lead to thirteen and then back-to-back free throws by Javon Hunter allowed the Warriors to come to 31-42 behind. Justice McCullough followed with a lay-up to cut Anderson's lead to nine points and make the score 33-42. Back-to-back shots by McCullough and Hunter put the Warriors down seven points at the end of the first half of the game and back the game 40-47.
Anderson took first points in the second half of the game on a layup by Gage Ellis to give the Trojans a 49-40 point lead. Southern Wesleyan's Zalan Richards made back-to-back shots to put the Warriors seven points behind Anderson and bring the score 47-54. Jalen Lowery made a 3-point shot to put the Warriors 50-58 behind Anderson. Anderson pushed ahead, taking a 16 point over Southern Wesleyan. Justice McCullough was fouled while making a lay-up to force a free throw that he then sunk. Anderson won the game in a 92-75 final score.
Southern Wesleyan will next take on Carson-Newman Eagles on November 11 at 1 p.m. They will remain on the road to take on the Mars Hill Lions on November 14 at 6 p.m. The Warriors will host their home opener on November 16 at 7:30 against the Bob Jones Bruins.
