Mars Hill, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Mars Hill Lions in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon in a final of 12-8.
The Warriors posted 13 hits in the loss to the Lions. Alec Hrynda led the team with three hits. Hrynda was followed by Steven Perez and Drew Carson with two hits each. Five Warriors posted doubles and Julio Justo hit his third home run of the season. Senior Justin Brew hit a sacrifice fly during the game.
Dustin Parsons started the game for the Warriors, going 1.1 innings while allowing six hits. Brandon Richeson, Jordan Finster, Josh Core and Jarrett Joyner all come in for relief. Core led the Warriors in strikeouts with three during his 2.0 innings of work.

How It Happened
The Mars Hill Lions started strong, taking 10-0 lead in the first three innings of competition on Thursday afternoon. The Lions kept the Warriors scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. Justin Brew led off with a double to left center and then advanced to third on a ground out by Drew Carson. Izzy Martinez reached first on a throwing error to bring Brew home to put Southern Wesleyan on the board 10-1 behind the Lions.
Home runs in the sixth and seventh inning by Brett Brubaker and Barrett Hennings gave the Lions a 12-1 lead over the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan threatened in the top of the ninth inning. DiMarkus Sanders led off with a double down the left field and then Steven Perez was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base and bring Julio Justo up to bat. Justo hit his third home of the season to left field to bring both Perez and Sanders home to put the Warriors down 12-4 to the Lions. Alec Hrynda followed Justo with a double to left center and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Quinton Bent followed with a walk. Justin Brew hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Hrynda home and then a double down the left field line by Drew Carson brought Bent to third base and put him in scoring position. Izzy Martinez singled to first base and moved to second on an error to bring both Carson and Bent home. Avery Mahon singled down the left field line to bring Martinez home. However, the Warriors could not come ahead as the Lions won the game in a 12-8 final.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to King to take on the Tornado in a three game series starting on April 1. They will play a doubleheader on April 1 starting at 12 pm before playing a single game on April 2 at 12:30 pm. The Warriors will then travel to Brevard to take on the Tornados on April 4 at 3 pm.
