Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan take an early lead, but fall to Mars Hill on Wednesday night in a final score of 10-2.
The Warriors posted six hits in the loss. John Garrett led the Warriors with two hits. Garrett and Avery Mahon each scored a run for Southern Wesleyan. Drew Carson and Garrett each had a double in the game, and Carson and Andrew Falgiano both received an RBI in the game. Izzy Martinez had a sacrifice bunt in loss.
Tyler Rio started the game for the Warriors and went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs in the loss. Rio also posted had seven strikeouts while facing 28 batters.

How It Happened
The Warriors and the Lions went back and forth through first two innings with the pitching dominating the hitting with back-to-back three up, three down innings. Southern Wesleyan put the first run on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Junior John Garrett singled on a bunt and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Izzy Martinez. Andrew Falgiano singled to bring Garrett around to score the first run for Warriors. The Lions threatened in the top of fourth, but Tyler Rio picked off the lead off runner before getting a fly out and a ground out to end the inning.
Mars Hill tied the game 1-1 on a single by Stampler to bring Brubaker around to cross the plate. Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Avery Mahon singled to center field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Conner Ewing reached on an error and then Drew Carson doubled down the left field line to bring Mahon around to cross the plate and take a 2-1 lead over the Lions.
The Lions regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning. With two men on, Cody Cline flew out to right field to bring Kesler around to score and tie the game 2-2. Brubaker followed with a single to center field to bring Vitello home and give the Lions a 3-2 lead over the Warriors.
Mars Hill lengthened their lead to 5-2 in the top of the eighth inning. In the top of ninth with two outs, the Lions went on to score five more runs and win the game 10-2.
The Warriors will next play the University of Virginia-Wise on Friday, February 17 at 4 pm. They will return to play Virginia-Wise on Saturday, February 18 at noon and 3 pm.
