High Point, N.C. - The 2017 Women's Cross Country Pre-Season Poll was released on August 28 with the University of Mount Olive Trojans receiving the highest score in the polls.
The Trojans of Mount Olive led the pre-season poll with 89 points received. Last season, Mount Olive won its second straight Conference Carolinas championship and received an NCAA Division II Southeast Region individual title.
Coming in the poll at second with 83 points are the Limestone College Saints. The Saints finished last season in second place in the Women's Cross Country Championship. Limestone is followed by North Greenville University in third place with 74 points in the poll. The Crusaders finished in third-place in last season's championship.
The Belmont Abbey College Crusaders are picked in fourth with 64 points in the poll. The Saints finished the 2016-17 season in fifth place. They are followed by the Barton College Bulldogs in fifth place with 57 points. The Bulldogs finished last season in six-place in the Cross Country Championship.
The Southern Wesleyan University Warriors were picked sixth in the 2017-18 pre-season poll with 53 votes. Last year, the Warriors finished seventh in the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championship. SWU is followed by the King Tornado, who are tabbed for seventh after receiving 42 points in the poll. The Tornado took an eighth-place finish last year.
Coming in eighth in the 2017-18 pre-season poll with 34 points is Converse College. The Valkyries finished last season in ninth. The Lees-McRae College Bobcats took 26 points in the poll to take ninth after finishing tenth in the Cross Country Championship last season. The Flying Fleet of Erskine College are tabbed for tenth in the poll with 14 points.
The Warriors will begin their season on September 2 at the 2017 Hyder-McMahill Invitational hosted by Montreat College. The annual Warrior Invitational will be held on September 15 with the races set to begin at 5 p.m.
