
Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan took down the Converse Valkyries in three sets on Tuesday evening in a 3-0 final.
The Warriors posted 28 kills in the victory, with Olivia Johnson leading the team with 10 kills. Annika Jones led the Warriors with 22 assists. Jones and Kenndall Vallancourt each posted three service aces, with Katlyn Von Ins following them with two aces. Shelby Sheets led the team with 13 digs. Sheets was followed by Katie Anderson with 12. Paige O'Connor led the team with four blocks.

How It Happened
Set One
Southern Wesleyan struck first on a kill by Olivia Johnson to take a 2-0 lead over the Valkyries. The Valkyries countered to put two points on the board on kills by Kenzie Schmaltz. However, kills by Kendall Vallancourt, Olivia Johnson and Courtney Price gave the Warriors a 10-4 point lead. Southern Wesleyan won the first set 25-11.
Set Two
The Warriors took a 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Valkyries countered on kills by Kenzie Schmaltz to tie the set and then take a 5-4 lead. The Warriors regained the lead on a kill by Olivia Johnson to bring the set to 6-5. Converse countered to come to within one point of Southern Wesleyan, but kills by Shelby Sheets and Kendall Vallancourt gave the Warriors a five point lead over the Valkyries. Southern Wesleyan won the second set in a 25-21 final.
Set Three
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the third set, charging ahead on a kill by Olivia Johnson and service ace by Annika Jones to take a 5-1 lead over the Valkyries. A well placed service ace by Kendall Vallancourt gave the Warriors a 16-10 point lead over Converse. Two more aces by Vallancourt and kills by Shelby Sheets, Olivia Johnson and Paige O'Connor gave the Warriors a 25-11 point victory in the final set of the evening.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next take on the North Greenville Crusaders on October 14th at 12 pm. They will then take on the Francis Marion Patriots later that day at 4 pm.
