Banner Elk, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan wins their second Conference Carolinas game of the season in thrilling fashion in overtime to defeat the Lees-McRae Bobcats 1-0.
The Warriors posted 14 shots. Amber German led the team with six shots and Ashley Romanowski followed her with four shots. German led the team two shots on goal. Beth Spence posted the loan goal for the Warriors on an assist by Ashley Romanowski. Senior Courtney McNeill posted seven saves while allowing no goals.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan and Lees-McRae kept to a stalemate during the first half of play. The Warriors drove the ball down the field several times, but each drive was thwarted by the Bobcat defense. Amber German led the Warriors with taking six shots, two on goal during the first half of play.
The Warriors and the Bobcats fought back and forth, with both teams taking several shots on goal. Ashley Romanowski drove the ball down the field several times seeking to give the Warriors a lead, but each time it was thwarted. The Bobcats countered with Kelsey Twigg driving the ball down the field, but a save by Courtney McNeill allowed the Warriors to keep Lees-McRae at bay.
However, neither team could capitalize to force an overtime period to occur. After only seconds into the first period of overtime, Ashley Romanowski passed the ball to senior Beth Spence. Spence turned the ball around and drove it into the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory over the Bobcats.
The Warriors will next travel to Columbia International to take on the Rams on October 4 at 7 p.m. They will then return to Childs Field to celebrate their five seniors on October 7 during Senior Night as they host the Converse College Valkyries at 5 p.m.
