Warriors Unable to Rise Above Strong Hawks Team

Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell in a 19-2 final against the Chowan Hawks on Saturday afternoon.

Southern Wesleyan took five shots on goal in the loss.  Jairy Sandoval and Abigail Welch scored the lone goals for the Warriors.  Welch went on to post the lone assists.  The Warriors had 13 ground balls with Welch leading the team with five.  Welch and Sandoval each had two draw controls.  Kaeleigh McDaniel played the whole game in goal for Southern Wesleyan and posted 13 saves.

How It Happened

The Chowan Hawks charged out early on, scoring four goals within four minutes to take a 4-0 lead over the Warriors.  After a foul, Abigail Welch took a free position shot to score the first goal for the Warriors to put them down 6-1 to the Hawks.  With just over fifteen minutes remaining, Jairy Sandoval scored the second goal for the Warriors off a pass by Welch to put the Warriors down 8-2.  The Hawks continued to pressure the Warriors to win the game 19-2.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Childs Field on February 7 as they take on the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots at 3 p.m.  They will then return to the road as they travel to St. Andrews on February 9 and then Mount Olive on February 10.
