Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan won their first game of the season against the Columbia International Rams in a 79-51 final score.
Southern Wesleyan had three players with over 10 points scored in the victory over the Rams. Jessica Sparks led the team off the bench with 17 points scored. Sparks was followed by Noelle Van Zadelhoff with 12 points and Aneysa Williams with 11 points. Noelle Van Zadelhoff delivered a double-double in the victory with 10 rebounds to go with her 12 points to lead the team. Kasey Howard and Breanna Richardson led the team with five assists apiece, and Tanayja Williams led the team with three steals. Van Zadelhoff posted the lone block for the Warriors.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan jumped out early on a three point jump shot by Aneysa Williams to take a 3-2 lead over Columbia International. They lengthened their lead to 8-2 on a jump shot by Tiana Sherman and second three point shot by Williams. Breanna Richardson sunk a three point jump shot to give the Warriors a seven point lead, however the Rams countered on a layup by Zeleria Simpson. Back-to-back three point jump shots by Jessica Sparks allowed the Warriors to take a 17-8 point lead.
Layups by Tanayja Williams allowed the Warriors to start strong in the second quarter and lengthen their lead to 26-10. Columbia International made a jump shot and layup to cut the lead to twelve points and bring the score to 14-26. A layup by Tanayja Williams allowed the Warriors to lengthen their lead to 48-22. Back-to-back three point jump shots by Kasey Howard and Breanna Richardson allowed the Warriors to take a 56-27 point lead. Jessica Sparks sunk a three point shot and jump shot to push the Warriors to 61-29 point lead.
The Rams struck first in the fourth quarter on a layup by Zeleria Simpson, but a layup by Shawndre' Young allowed the Warriors to maintain control and bring the game to 67-32. Layups by Kaitlyn Smart and Young gave Southern Wesleyan a 71-34 point lead. Columbia International pushed on with a layup by Raven Fleming and free throws by Jordan Spruell to come to 42-76 behind Southern Wesleyan. Kallie Hall sunk a jump shot with less than a minute of play left to give the Warriors a 51-79 victory over the Rams.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Tampa, Florida to take part in a tournament. They will take on Tampa on December 18 at 2 p.m. and then Florida Tech on December 19 at 12 p.m.
