Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 90-55 final on Saturday evening.
Shawndre' Young led the team with 11 points in the loss. Young was followed by Jessica Sparks, Aneysa Williams and Noelle Van Zadelhoff with nine points each. The Warriors shot 57.9% at the free throw line in the loss. Southern Wesleyan posted 25 rebounds with Aneysa Williams leading the team with six rebounds. Tiana Sherman posted three assists in the loss. Four Warriors stole the ball during the game and three put up blocks.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took an early lead on a jump shot by Tiana Sherman, but Belmont Abbey countered on a layup by Emry Tsitouris to tie the game 2-2. The Crusaders took a 4-2 lead on a jump shot by Briana Grier. Belmont Abbey lengthened their lead to 10-2, however a jump shot by Breanna Richardson allowed the Warriors to cut the Crusaders lead to 10-4. A three point shot by Aneysa Williams allowed Southern Wesleyan to cut the lead to 12-7. Back-to-back jump shots by Shawndre' Young allowed the Warriors to cut the lead to 11-22.
Belmont Abbey started the second quarter with a jump shot by Emry Tsitouris to give them a 33-11 lead. A three point shot by Shawndre' Young allowed the Warriors to come to 13-33 behind the Crusaders. Young stole the ball away from the Crusaders to make a break-away lay-up and put the Warriors down 16-33. Breanna Richardson passed the ball to Aneysa Williams who took it to the net to put the Warriors down 20-37. Jessica Sparks sunk a three point jump shot to put Southern Wesleyan down 24-45, however the Crusaders took a 47-24 point lead on free throws by Keyanna Spivey.
Southern Wesleyan started strong to start the second half with a shot by Brenna Richardson to put the score to 26-50. Briana Grier allowed the Crusaders to lengthen their lead to 54-28 over Southern Wesleyan. Denisha Hall suck a three point to put the Warriors down 54-32 to the Crusaders. Jessica Sparks took a pass by Shawndre Young to put Southern Wesleyan down 37-59. Aneysa Williams put up two good free throws, but at the end of the third quarters the Crusaders were still leading 63-42.
Belmont Abbey led off to lead off the fourth quarter, Southern Wesleyan countered on a jump shot by Aneysa Williams to put the Warriors down 24 points and bring the score to 44-68. A three point shot by Allie Downing allowed the Crusaders to push ahead to 73-44. Kaitlyn Smart went to make a layup, but a foul by Taylor Gittings allowed Smart to take free throws. Smart sunk back-to-back free throws to put the Warriors down 46-73. Jessica Sparks put up a three point jump shot to allow the Warriors to come to 49-76 behind the Crusaders. Noelle Van Zadelhoff made back-to-back layups to but the Warriors down 54-90. The Warriors would fall to the Crusaders 90-55.
Southern Wesleyan will return home on December 12 to take on the Columbia International Rams at 6 p.m. They will then travel to Tampa Florida to take on Tampa on December 18 and Florida Tech on December 19.
