Gaffney, S.C. – The Warriors fell to the Limestone College Saints in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening in a final score of 94-59.
Kristen Smith led the Warriors with eight points in the loss. She was followed by Shelby Gilbert and Taylor Vinson with seven points apiece. Southern Wesleyan posted a 32.8% field goal percentage and were 9-11 at the free throw line. Erika Wesolek and Cayse Branyon led the team in assists with two each.
Southern Wesleyan posted 37 rebounds in the loss compared to the Saints 54. Gabrielle Bates led the Warriors in rebounds with nine. She is followed by Breanna Richardson, Tomi Sanchez and Tatiana Manuel with four rebounds apiece. Manuel led the team in blocks with three. Richardson and Kasey Howard each posted two steals in the game.

"We were timid starting the game and against a team like Limestone, they will take advantage. I liked our approach in the second half. We need to be able to play loose and with confidence to start games of this caliber. I was proud of our team throughout the game for being engaged throughout, which speaks to the character of each of them."
How It Happened
Limestone struck first in the game against Southern Wesleyan on free throw shots by Aliya Ruffin and increased their lead to 11-0 on shots by Aaliyah Davis, Jasmine Kearse and Keidra Smith. Tatiana Manuel put points on the board for Southern Wesleyan on free throws to make the game 11-2. The Saints kept the Warriors from scoring for several minutes before Kristen Smith made back-to-back three point jump shots to bring the score to 23-8.
Aneysa Williams made a layup in the second quarter followed by a jump shot by Tatiana Manuel to bring the Warriors to 31-16 behind Limestone. The Saints increased their lead to 20 points on a layup by Jasmine Richardson. With one minute left to play, Shelby Gilbert made a three point jump shot to score the last points of the half and bringing the score to 49-22 at the half.
The Saints struck first in the second half on a three point jump shot by Aliya Ruffin and layup by Aaliyah Davis to give them a 54-22 lead. Tomi Sanchez score the first points for the Warriors in the second half to give the Saints a 57-24. Shots by Sanchez and Tatiyana Mahone brought the score to 61-29.
Free throws by Kasey Howard allowed the Warriors to score first in the fourth quarter of the game to bring the game to 71-33. A jump shot by Gabrielle Bates and layup by Howard then brought the Warriors to 79-39 behind the Limestone Saints. However, free throws by Dayonshe' Mitchell gave the Saints an 87-41 point lead. The Warriors countered with a 3-point jump shots by Shelby Gilbert, Brooke Strickland, Erika Wesolek and Taylor Vinson to bring them to 92-56. The Saints would win the game 94-59.
The Warriors will next travel to Belmont Abbey on February 18 at 5:30 p.m. before going to Emmanuel to take on the Lions on February 21 at 5:30 p.m.
