Warriors Split Double Header Versus Bulldogs

Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan split to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday.  The Warriors fell 3-1 in game one, but came back to win 2-1 in game two.

Southern Wesleyan recorded two hits in the game one loss.  Becca White and Megan New had the lone hits with New's being a double.  Riley Herdliska had the lone walk and White had a stolen base.  Josie Edwards started game one and went four innings while allowing seven hits.  Hunter Hoskins came in to pitch in relief for the Warriors.

The Warriors recorded seven hits in the game two victory with Megan New leading the team with two.  Both Lexi Thompson and Makaila Irby doubled during the game.  New went on to lead the team with two RBIs.  Two Warriors walked during the game, Lucy Wolff recorded a sacrifice bunt, and Grace McGuffin stole a base during the game.  Hunter Hoskins pitched a complete game for the Warriors and struck out two while only allowing four hits.

How It Happened

Game One

The Barton Bulldogs took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning to put them on top 2-0.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the fifth inning.  Riley Herdliska reached first on a walk and then Kassidy Hamrick came in to pinch run.  With Hamrick at first, Megan New doubled to left field to allow Hamrick to cross home and put the Warriors down 3-1.  The Bulldogs won the game 3-1.

Game Two

Southern Wesleyan struck first in game two of the afternoon.  In the top of the fourth, Riley Herdliska singled up the middle and then advanced to third on a double by Makaila Irby.  With two on, Megan New singled up the middle to bring both Herdliska and Irby in and put the Warriors on top 2-0.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in a 2-1 final score.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Varsity Field on April 17 to take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet.  They will remain at home on April 19 as they take on the Lander Bearcats.  Southern Wesleyan will then close out the 2018 season on the road on April 21 against the North Greenville Crusaders.
