High Point, N.C. - The 2017 Men's Cross Country Pre-Season Poll was released on August 28 with the University of Mount Olive Trojans receiving the highest score in the polls.
The Trojans of Mount Olive led the pre-season poll with 70 points received. Last season, Mount Olive won its fifth straight Conference Carolinas championship and went on to capture the 2016 NCAA Division II Southeast Region. They ended the season in 25th place in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship.
Coming in the poll at second with 61 points are the Lees-McRae College Bobcats. The Bobcats finished last season in second place in the Men's Cross Country Championship. Lees-McRae is followed by King University in third place with 56 points in the poll. The Tornado finished in third in last season's championship.
The Limestone College Saints are picked in fourth with 53 points in the poll. The Saints finished the 2016-17 season in fourth place. They are followed by the Barton College Bulldogs in fifth place with 50 points. The Bulldogs finished last season in fifth-place in the Cross Country Championship.
The North Greenville University Crusaders were picked for a sixth place finish with 39 points, and the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders closely followed them with 32 points to take seventh place in the polls. The Southern Wesleyan University Warriors have been picked eighth for the 2017-18 Cross Country season with 31 points in the poll. Last season, the Warriors finished in ninth-place in the Cross Country Championship.
The Warriors will begin their season on September 2 at the 2017 Hyder-McMahill Invitational hosted by Montreat College. The annual Warrior Invitational will be held on September 15 with the races set to begin at 5 p.m.
