Hailing from Lincoln, England, Rowden comes from a small family; parents and younger brother. He started his playing career at a very young age and had the opportunity to represent the county of Lincolnshire. He left the English youth system to pursue an opportunity in the US at the University of DC and later transferred to Southern Wesleyan University. In the summer of 2016, Rowden interned with the Lincoln City FC youth academy. Throughout the internship he gained first-hand experience of professional coaching and day-to-day operations such as monitoring players in training and games. While with Lincoln City FC, Rowden worked within the majority of the training sessions and was also involved on the staff for pre-season fixtures at Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United. Sam graduated from SWU in 2017 with a degree in Psychology. Currently, Rowden is part of the athlete academic support staff for the entire athletic department in addition to his role within men’s soccer.

Regarding his positions at SWU, Rowden says, “I have a deep passion for helping athletes have the greatest experience at SWU, particularly those in the men’s soccer team.”
