Men's Soccer Announces 2018 Signees

 Central, S.C. - SWU Head Men's Soccer Coach, Garrett Bireline and the men's soccer program have signed eleven players for the 2018 class. The program has qualified for the last two Conference Carolinas Tournaments and won the NCCAA South Region this past season. The newest members will look to continue building the program, on and off the field. Garrett Bireline and the Men's Soccer program welcome Ben Baker, Caleb Compton, Miguel Gallegos, Zachary Hurst, Malik Ibrahim, Cale McLarnon, Brandon Smith, Brandon Trimby, Oscar Vanegas, Zackery White and Isaiah Wilkins.

"We are very grateful for the commitment of these young men and their families to Southern Wesleyan University. I believe that this group has great potential to allow SWU to help shape them into quality men on and off the field. I also am confident that they will be able to help impact our environment in a tremendous manner, as well," commented Bireline.

 

 

Ben Baker – F – High Point, NC – Ledford High School – Piedmont Triad FC

Baker on SWU: "I chose Southern Wesleyan because I feel it will be a great place to learn, grow, and transform into a better player on the field and a better man off the field."

 

Caleb Compton – MF – High Point, NC – Wesleyan Christian Academy – Piedmont Triad FC

Compton on SWU: "The reason I chose SWU is simple: when I toured I felt a great sense of welcoming and felt already loved. That's exactly what I wanted. I wanted smaller classrooms so learning would be maximized and also a great clean atmosphere to live in. I am blessed with the opportunity to worship Jesus with the ability of soccer He has given me. I'm more than excited to continue my adventure and journey with SWU and can't wait to start!"

 

Miguel Gallegos – MF – Bluffton, SC – Bluffton High School – Tormenta FC

Gallegos on SWU: "From the start, SWU's campus grabbed my attention. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and felt like home. I chose SWU because the soccer program was family oriented. This is the best fit for me to continue the next chapter of my career."

 

Zachary Hurst – D – Easley, SC – Powdersville High School – Carolina Elite SA

Hurst on SWU: "I chose SWU because of what the school is about in the classroom and on the field. SWU's classes are small allowing for a better learning opportunity which is very important to me. On the field, the coaches and players are like family and is an atmosphere I can't wait to be a part of next year. SWU was the best option for me personally to grow as player and as student."

 

Malik Ibrahim – MF – Jamestown, NC – Wesleyan Christian Academy – Piedmont Triad FC

Ibrahim on SWU: "I chose SWU because it allows me to best opportunity to grow in loving God and sharing His words through soccer."

 

Cale McLarnon – D – Appling, GA – Westminster Schools of Augusta – Augusta Arsenal SC

McLarnon on SWU: "I have made my decision to go to SWU because I feel it is the best fit academically and athletically and that it is a place where my faith will have an opportunity to grow even more. I look forward to putting on SWU blue and continuing to build the program with Coach Bireline."

Smith on SWU: "I chose SWU because I know that I will not only be challenged, but I will make an impact on my peers, my teammates, and the community."

 

Brandon Trimby – GK – Myrtle Beach, SC – Socastee High School – Coast FA

Trimby on SWU: "In making my decision I felt SWU would be the best fit for me academically and athletically. When I visited SWU the team felt like a family. I felt the level of play was high on the field and the coaches showed great interest with my success in the classroom. I can't wait to get to work in the classroom and on the field and wear the SWU blue."

 

Oscar Vanegas – MF – Norcross, GA – Greater Atlanta Christian School – Kalonji Soccer Academy

Vanegas on SWU: "I chose SWU since they are strong academically and have a great athletic program. It is the best of both worlds. Their Christian environment is one I admire. I am looking forward to growing in my faith while in the classroom and on the soccer field."

White on SWU: "I chose SWU because there was an immediate family environment once I stepped on campus. Coach Bireline was so loyal and show a lot of love throughout the whole process. It is the perfect fit for me."
