Five Warriors Named to NCCAA South All-Region Team

Greenville, SC – Five Warriors were named to the NCCAA South All-Region team in Men's Soccer after the 2017 campaign.  On the team include goalkeeper Miguel Uribe, defender Marshall Ball, forward Grant Kiker, and midfielders Juan Sebastian Castro and Sergio Tapia.

Miguel Uribe, a junior from Bogota, Colombia, was the starting goalkeeper for the Warriors this season.  Uribe played just under 2000 minutes of soccer for Southern Wesleyan, posting 126 saves to beat his previous season's total.  The goalkeeper from Colombia posted season highs of 11 saves against the King Tornado on October 11 and the Mount Olive Trojans on October 31.  The goalkeeper had two shut out games this season.

Marshall Ball, a freshman from England, started in all 19 games he played in this season.  The England native provided a solid defense for the Warriors this season, blocking several opposing attacks on the goal.  While on defense, Ball made 10 shots and posted a game high three shots against the King Tornado on October 11.

Juan Sebastian Castro, a senior from Cali, Colombia, started in all 20 of the games he played this season.  During his final season with the Warriors, Castro put up 49 shots and 20 shots on goal.  He scored his first goal of the 2017 season on September 30 against the Lees-McRae Bobcats, the goal allowed the Warriors to win the game 2-0.  Castro posted two goals and three assists this season.

Sergio Tapia, a senior from Vina del Mar, Chile, started in 20 games for the Warriors.  The senior went 4-4 in penalty kicks this season for Southern Wesleyan to lead the team.  Posting his best season as a Warrior, Tapia delivered five goals and one assist.  His best game came on September 23 against the Barton Bulldogs were he scored two goals including the game winner.

Grant Kiker, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., was one of the Warriors leading scorers during the 2017 campaign.  Kiker posted seven goals, two of which were game winners for the Warriors.  The Charlotte native scored a hat-trick against North Greenville on September 9 to give Southern Wesleyan a 3-1 victory over the Crusaders.  He also scored two goals in the 3-1 victory over the Chowan Hawks during Homecoming festivities on October 21. He also posted an assist in the South Regional Championship game versus the Columbia International Rams on November 17.
