Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Pre-Season Poll Announced

High Point, N.C. - The 2017 Men's Soccer Pre-Season Poll was released on August 16 with the Limestone College Saints receiving the highest score in the polls.

The Limestone Saints look to carry on from their success last season after receiving 90 points in the preseason poll.  The Saints went to the 2016 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship last year after going 16-4 overall and boasting a 9-1 Conference Carolinas record.  They would defeat Lander in the first round before fall to Wingate in the second round of play. 

The SouthernWesleyan Warriors took second in the polls with 69 points.  Last year, in their first year of post season eligibility in Conference Carolinas, the Warriors advanced to the Conference Carolinas post season tournament.  They defeated the Mount Olive Trojans in the quarterfinals before being defeated by the Limestone Saints to end their 2016 campaign.  They will look to build on their successful fist season campaign.

The Warriors are closely followed by the Erskine College Flying Fleet with 62 points in the poll to take third.  The Fleet finished the 2016 season in third with an 8-9 overall record and were 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play.  In their first year as an associate member, the Chowan University Hawks are picked to take fourth place with 57 points on the poll.  The Hawks posted a 9-6-2 record during the 2016 season.

Tied for fifth place are the University of Mount Olive Trojans and the King University Tornado with 54 points in the pre-season poll.  The Trojans finished last season tied for fourth place with King with a Conference Carolinas record of 5-5.  Mount Olive posted a 7-8-1 overall record.  The King Tornado went 7-11 overall during the 2016 campaign.

Just behind the Trojans and the Tornado are the Lees-McRae College Bobcats with 53 points to take seventh place in the poll.  Last season, the Bobcats finished in a tie for sixth with a 4-6 record in conference and 5-14 overall.  They are followed in the poll by the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in eighth with 46 points.  The Crusaders tied the Bobcats for sixth place last season with a 4-6 conference record and were 6-8-2 overall.

The Barton College Bulldogs and North Greenville University Crusaders round off the pre-season poll in ninth and tenth place.  The Bulldogs took ninth with 33 points after going 6-11-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.  The Crusaders took the tenth position in the poll with 22 points after going 2-9-1 overall last season and 1-8-1 in conference.

Southern Wesleyan will open their 2017 campaign against the North Georgia Nighthawks on August 31 at 7 p.m.  They will be on the road for their first Conference Carolinas match-up of the season against the North Greenville University Crusaders on September 9 at 7:30 p.m.
