Title: Associate Head Coach

Byron Wimphrie will be entering his third season as an associate head coach for the Southern Wesleyan University men's basketball team, and his second season as the Head Coach of the JV program.

Wimphrie is a native of Central, S.C. and went to high school at nearby Liberty High School where he was All-State performer. 

He began his coaching career during his collegiate days.  During the summers Coach Wimphrie helped coached the Palmetto Team Youth Association where the organization won two state championships. After graduating college, Wimphrie went to Charleston Southern to be the Director of Basketball Operations for the men's basketball program.

Collegiately, Wimphrie attended Charleston Southern in 2005-06 before transferring back to SWU where he graduated with a degree in Physical Education.  He went on to pursue a Master’s in Psychology from Walden University which he completed in 2013. 

At Liberty High Wimphrie was a three-time all-conference selection, and Conference Player of the Year.  Wimphrie scored 1,292 points in his career, and he holds the single game 3-point record of 9. 

Wimphrie currently lives with his wife in Liberty, S.C. and they have two children Elynn Rae Wimphrie (3) and Charles "Banks" Wimphrie (1).  Wimphrie and his family attend 5 Point Church of Easley SC where he and his wife serve in the Children's Ministry.
