Jerome Coney III will be entering his fourth season as a NCAA Division II assistant basketball coach and his first season at Southern Wesleyan University after spending his previous three years at his alma mater Anderson University.
He is a North Plainfield, New Jersey native who attended North Plainfield High School and later graduated from T.L. Hanna High School after moving to Anderson, South Carolina prior to his senior year. While in high school, he played basketball and football, and then he played basketball in college at Anderson University.
Coney graduated with a dual concentrated Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Business Management from Anderson University in 2014 and finished his Masters in Business Administration in 2016.
One of his greatest memories was getting to experience the 2011 NCAA Division II Elite Eight under Coach Jason Taylor, Coach Ryan Hilburn, and Coach William Monts. Coney was present during all three of the Trojans NCAA tournament appearances between 2011-2014, which has had a lasting impact on his drive, his standard, and his expectations for seasonal college basketball success.
At Anderson University as an assistant coach, Coney spent time recruiting, being the academic liaison, fundraising, fully heading the JV basketball program, meeting all video coordinating/technology needs, and was also in charge of developing the post players among other coaching responsibilities. He has worked with several All-SAC performers.
Coney is engaged to SWU alum Devri Burdick and the two plan to live in Central, South Carolina after their October wedding. Coney attends CrossPoint Church in Clemson, SC and revels being a Christian role model to his players.
