How It Happened

The Lions took an early lead in the contest before a free throw from Jacob Smith put the Warriors on the board. Emmanuel continued to push their lead and Warriors battled to score. Free throws from Zalan Richards and Justice McCullough followed by a layup from McCullough brought the score to 5-13 midway through the first half. Javon Hunter answered for the Warriors with a layup in the next possession. Tough defense allowed Southern Wesleyan to hold off the Lions. McCullough was then fouled and made both free throws. The Lions missed their next shot and with the rebound from McCullough, he was able to take it all the way with a layup to make the score 11-19. After a Lions timeout, Kylie Blackett nailed a 3-pointer to give the Warriors some momentum. Nearing the end of the first half, several Warriors were able to put up layups. With less than two minutes to go, Bryson Williams hit the 3-pointer to put the Warriors within three at 28-31. More shots from both teams had the Lions winning 35-30 at the half.

Emmanuel jumped out in the second half to lengthen their lead to 37-30 on free throws by Colton Collins.  Free throws by Justice McCullough and a layup by Jalen Lowery allowed the Warriors to come within five and make the score 34-39.  Jeremy Wert made a layup and a free throw, after being fouled on the shot, to put the score at 37-39.  Emmanuel pushed ahead with several shots in a row to bring their lead to 45-37.  However, a jump shot by Lowery put the Warriors down 39-45.  The Lions charged down the court led by a dunk by Emerson McClung to take a 51-39, but a jump shot by Justice McCullough put Southern Wesleyan within ten.  Lowery sunk a three point shot to make the score 44-53.  Kallen McDaniel made a layup to put the Warriors down 46-55.  Emmanuel continued to pushed ahead, but layups by Javon Hunter and Kylie Blackett allowed the Warriors to keep the game within eleven with just over five minutes left in the second half.  Jeremy Wert dunked the ball with just a second left on the clock, but it was not enough as the Warriors fell 74-82.
