Southern Wesleyan Falls To Limestone

Gaffney, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Limestone Saints in an 89-58 final on Saturday evening.

Southern Wesleyan shot 41.2% in field goals and went 50% from the free throw line.  Justice McCullough led the team with 15 points.  McCullough was followed by Jacob Smith and DJ Dobson with 14 points each.  Jalen Lowery and Kylie Blackett posted three assists apiece in the loss.

The Warriors had 28 rebounds with junior Justice McCullough leading the team with nine.  DJ Dobson had the lone block for the Warriors.  The Warriors posted six steals in the loss.  Jalen Lowery led the team with two of the six.

How It Happened

Limestone struck first and quickly took a 5-0 lead over Southern Wesleyan.  A layup by Zalan Richards put Southern Wesleyan on the board and made the score 2-6.  A jump shot by freshman Jacob Smith allowed the Warriors to cut the Saints lead in half and made the score 4-8.  Limestone pushed ahead, but the Warriors kept it close on a three point shot by Jeremy Wert and a dunk by DJ Dobson to put the Warriors down 14-9.  The Saints pushed their lead to 28-12 on a tipped in shot by Donovan Harris, but a three point jump shot by Bryson Sanders allowed the Warriors to come to 15-28 behind the Saints.  Justice McCullough put up a good jump shot for the Warriors to bring them within thirteen points of the Saints.  Limestone made a push and with a dunk by TJ Sheppard took a 20 point lead over Southern Wesleyan.  At the half, the Saints led the Warriors 44-20.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half of play with a jump shot by Justice McCullough to put the Warriors down 22-44 to the Saints.  Limestone pushed on with a jump shot by Jaquan Simms to give them a 48-24 point advantage.  A jump shot by McCullough and a three point shot by Jacob Smith allowed Southern Wesleyan to cut Limestone's lead to 52-31.  Smith sunk another three point shot to put the Warriors twenty points behind the Saints and made the score 57-37.  Donovan Harris made a dunk on a pass from Jaquan Simms to give the Saints a 64-41 point lead with just under twelve minutes left to play.  The Warriors countered with a layup by DJ Dobson to put them down 43-67.  A layup by Jalan Lowery put the Warriors within nineteen points of the Saints.  With about three minutes remaining, McCullough and Dobson made a layups to put the Warriors down 85-57.  Limestone won the game in an 89-58 final.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 31st as they take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 7:30 p.m.  They will travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on February 3 at 4 p.m.
